Calculate gratuity from the full session price rather than only the post-deposit balance. Compare a percentage with a fixed amount and see what remains due today.

How the tattoo tip calculator works

Enter the full price charged for the completed tattoo session. Add the deposit already paid, choose a percentage or fixed gratuity, and select the number of artists sharing the tip when a collaboration is involved. The tattoo tip calculator subtracts the deposit from the service balance after calculating the tip from the full session price.

For a $500 session with a $100 deposit, a 20% tip is $100 and the amount due today is $500: $400 remaining service balance plus the tip. Calculating 20% from the $400 balance would produce $80, so showing both the full price and deposit prevents that ambiguity.

Choose the useful measure

Percentage versus fixed tattoo tips

Tattoo sessions can have high prices, multiple sittings, custom design work, and deposits. A percentage scales with the session price, while a fixed amount may be easier when you have a specific gratuity in mind or are tipping across several sessions. The tool supports both without presenting one as required.

Local customs, studio policy, the artist’s business model, and your experience can all influence the decision. The calculator does not know whether the artist owns the studio, rents a station, or included design time in the quoted price. It provides transparent arithmetic for the amount you choose.

Avoid deposit confusion

Multi-session work and prepaid deposits

For a project completed over several appointments, decide whether you want to tip after each session or at the end. When tipping each session, enter that session’s full price and the portion of the deposit applied to it. When tipping once on the whole project, enter the complete service price only after the final amount is known.

A booking deposit may be nonrefundable, applied to the final session, or governed by another studio policy. The tattoo tip calculator treats it only as money already paid toward the entered service price. It does not determine cancellation terms or how a studio accounts for deposits.

Worked session

Tattoo session checkout example

A completed session costs $650 and the artist previously collected a $150 deposit. An 18% tip on the full price is $117. The remaining service balance is $500, so $617 is due today. The tattoo tip calculator displays the deposit, gratuity, and remaining checkout amount separately.

For a collaboration between two artists, an equal split would show $58.50 per artist. Actual shares may depend on each artist’s work and the studio’s payment process. Choose separate fixed calculations when the intended distribution is not equal, and communicate the allocation at checkout.

Questions, answered

Tattoo tip calculator FAQ

Does the tattoo tip calculator use the price before a deposit?

Yes. A percentage is calculated from the full session price. The deposit then reduces what remains due today.

Can I enter a fixed artist tip?

Yes. Switch to Fixed amount when you prefer a specific dollar gratuity instead of a percentage.

Can two artists share the tip?

Yes. Choose the number of artists to see an equal share, or calculate separate fixed amounts for an unequal collaboration.

How should I handle multiple tattoo sessions?

Use each session’s full price when tipping per session, or wait until the final project price is known for one combined calculation.

Does this determine the correct tattoo tip?

No. It calculates the amount you select. Customs and circumstances vary, so the decision remains yours.
