Privacy at a glance
The tip calculator performs its math in your browser. The bill amount, selected tip percentage, entered sales-tax rate, number of people, and calculated total are not submitted to an application server in order to produce a result. You do not need to create an account, provide a name, or save a payment method to use the tool.
Like most websites, the hosting layer may process ordinary request information needed to deliver a page, such as an IP address, browser information, requested path, time, and basic security data. Optional analytics and advertising integrations can be enabled by the site operator through deployment settings. When those settings are empty, their scripts are omitted from the production page.
Tip calculator inputs and results
Tip Calc does not require a backend calculation request. JavaScript in the downloaded page reads the amount you enter and updates the visible receipt on the same device. Reloading or closing the page clears the current bill from the interface. The site does not provide an account-based calculation history.
When you select Copy bill breakdown, the browser clipboard API receives the displayed subtotal, optional tax, tip, total, and per-person result. That action happens only after you press the copy button. Clipboard access is controlled by your browser and device. The site does not receive the copied text back.
Local browser storage
The tip calculator may use local storage to remember the selected display currency, such as USD or CAD. This convenience value stays on the same browser profile until you clear site data or change the setting. Currency selection changes formatting only; it is not an exchange-rate conversion and it does not reveal a bill amount.
No cookie is required for the core calculation. Optional third-party analytics or advertising providers may use cookies, local storage, pixels, or similar technologies under their own terms when an operator enables those services. Browser privacy controls, content blockers, and provider opt-out mechanisms may limit that processing without preventing the calculator’s local arithmetic.
Optional analytics
The deployment supports optional Google Tag Manager, Umami, Microsoft Clarity, and OpenPanel configuration. These integrations help an operator understand page performance, general usage, navigation, device categories, errors, or interaction patterns. They are not required and are included only in production when the corresponding environment variables are configured.
Analytics providers may process identifiers and usage information according to their own privacy documentation and the operator’s configuration. Tip Calc does not intentionally send the value typed into the bill, tip, people, or tax fields as a custom analytics event. Nevertheless, visitors should avoid entering sensitive personal information into any website form that does not request it.
Optional advertising
The deployment also supports Google AdSense. When a valid publisher identifier is configured, the AdSense script is included in production and an ads.txt entry is generated. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technology to select, deliver, measure, and protect advertising under their applicable policies.
Advertising does not change the tip calculator formula. The calculation remains available without an account, and the site’s own calculator code does not need to transmit the current bill to an ad provider. If advertising is enabled, applicable consent or privacy controls may be presented based on the visitor’s region and the operator’s configuration.
Hosting, security, and logs
The site is designed as a static Astro website that can be served through Cloudflare infrastructure. A hosting or security provider may temporarily process request logs, IP addresses, user-agent strings, network diagnostics, or threat signals to deliver content, prevent abuse, investigate errors, and maintain service reliability.
No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure. The project minimizes application data by avoiding accounts and server-side bill records, but visitors remain responsible for their device, browser, network, clipboard, and any extensions that can observe page activity.
Your choices
You can use browser controls to clear local storage, block cookies, disable JavaScript, restrict third-party scripts, or send privacy preference signals. Disabling JavaScript prevents the interactive tip calculator from updating because the arithmetic is performed on the device. Blocking optional third-party scripts should not prevent the static page content from loading.
You can also choose not to use the copy feature, and you can close or reload the page to clear the current visible bill. If a public contact address is configured in the footer, you may use it for privacy questions. Do not send payment-card numbers, receipts containing personal details, or other sensitive financial information.
Policy updates
This policy may change when the site’s features, hosting, legal obligations, analytics configuration, or advertising configuration change. The date at the top identifies the current published version. Material changes should be reflected here before or when the relevant processing begins.
This privacy explanation describes the Tip Calc site and is not a substitute for the policies of a browser, network operator, hosting provider, analytics provider, or advertising provider. Those parties independently determine some of their processing practices.
